Miles helps her out, and later on, she sends him info on Kraven’s shenanigans in gratitude. Mysterio’s working at the park as well, running an augmented reality project. The young webhead has to battle through various scenarios, thinking Mysterio’s using the hallucination tech for crimes. Lizard creates one of the game’s best chases as the hunters and Spider-Men try to nab him across NYC’s waterways. Thankfully, Peter and Miles get to him first, beat him down, and cure him. Connors, after all, is the key to studying the symbiote and helping ensure it doesn’t fully possess Peter.

It’s been almost five years since the original hit the shelves, and players are desperate for any slither of information. Other big fixes include fixing a crash that happened while quitting Spider-Man 2 too quickly after starting it and another that involved a crash that would happen on quadcore processors after turning ray tracing on. It’s already a great-looking game, though now that it is on PC, players will likely want to push Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 to its limits. This new update works to make this possible, with another fix addressing an annoying issue with brightness, contrast, and other visual effects that caused them to reset. A few missions later, Peter, with his symbiote suit, helps Miles Morales track down the Lizard, but the younger Spider-Man realizes that his friend is not quite himself. Peter goes to take down the lizard himself, and succeeds, but Miles is captured by Hunters, leading Peter to go to save him and vow to kill Kraven the Hunter.

Certain enemies are weak to different types of abilities, such as electric or symbiote attacks, which also adds an enjoyable extra wrinkle to fights. It’s by no means revolutionary stuff, but a welcome added level of complexity that makes you consider which powers – or even which Spider-Man – are best for a given job. The majority of the side activities wind up feeling both mechanically and narratively pointless. An electric bike race feels silly enough in a Spider-Man game, but when the stakes are just “I need someone to try out my electric bike”, it’s hard not to think Miles and Peter have more pressing stuff to be getting on with. Far too much of what you’re doing feels like padding from the early days of open world games—there’s more inspiration here from Crackdown than there is from GTA V. Dialogue has this odd faux-wholesome tone, like you’re trapped in a corporate training video—all careful politeness and empty one-liners.

Outside of the likes of Venom, Kraven, and Lizard seen in the trailers, Insomniac has kept many more cards hidden up its sleeve. I won’t even hint at any of these except to say that Spider-Man 2 opens with a bang, offering up a sense of scale not previously seen in the series. It’s an adrenaline-fuelled reintroduction to the series that tests how well you remember the combat, as well as providing a few new tricks.

Despite its problems at launch, the PC port of Spider-Man 2 does have one big upside for gamers on the platform. Starting with Spider-Man 2, Sony has decided to do away with the controversial PSN account requirement with some of its games on PC. Those that want to unlock Spider-Man 2’s trophies and enjoy the various other benefits that come with the PlayStation overlay will still want to sign in, but it’s no longer forced. Like Stan said, the beauty of Spider-Man is being him, and while Peter’s sections mostly push the narrative forward in operatic ways, the Miles Morales sections make up the soul of the game in meaningful ways. Much of his storyline is centered around the “friendly neighborhood” part of Spider-Man and its here where the immersion and length provided by the video game medium set this title apart from the print and movies.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s map is far more expansive than its predecessor. In fact, it’s about twice as large, with new areas of New York City added in the sequel, including Brooklyn, Queens, and the East River. Traversing New York City feels more exhilarating in the sequel, thanks to introducing the new web wings that make getting around easier and more fun. You can’t help feeling that traversal is faster in the sequel, too, partially due to the web wings. Slinging webs will never get boring, but it certainly doesn’t hurt to switch things up now and then.

This configuration lets you enjoy ray-traced reflections and shadows at 1440p while maintaining smooth gameplay. As you might expect from a game with these requirements, the Spider-Man 2 download size is big. The PC version is larger than the PS5 file size, sitting at 140GB, and an SSD will be required to run it.
