And yet, even when Astro is pulling off his most basic moves in familiar environments, this game feels rr 99 revelatory. The PS5’s new controller combines a built-in speaker with vibrating haptics to make interacting with the world feel like it’s literally happening in your hand. Astro running across a sandy beach sounds and feels completely different than running on a fluffy cloud, for example. It is worth noting that the game is maintained in a very colorful artistic style, which may appeal to both older and younger players. Astro’s Playroom has a new tool in that regard, of course, with the PlayStation 5’s DualSense controller and its haptic feedback.

 

Skill Level

 

When you get to the Checkpoint just after the Uncharted easter egg, head around the corner of the cliff to find a reporter pointing out a black painting on the rock. The symbols above the soldiers refer to the rhythm-based nature of the gameplay to help take on large beasts. On the right-hand side at the start of GPU Jungle is a lower platform of a Bot dancing in an orange head with blue jorts. This references 1996’s Crash Bandicoot on the PS1, developed by Naughty Dog and often considered the PlayStation’s earliest mascot-type character.

 

To add the four bots to Astro Bot, play until you’ve completed the first nebula and unlocked the Crash Site hub. Here, you can continue to unlock additional collectibles, including puzzle pieces and bots to add to your totals. What’s so remarkable about Astro’s Playroom is that while it’s ostensibly about showing off the features of the PlayStation 5, it’s also a fabulous platformer. Levels constantly throw me new toys to play with that totally change the way the level plays. Later levels include a spaceship (with rockets powered by the adaptive triggers) and a rolling ball (controlled by swiping the touchpad on the DualSense), intermingled with platforming sequences.

 

On the right side of the giant pool at the end of Hotel Hopalot, you can find some Bots dancing next to two cardboard cutouts. These reference 1996’s PaRappa the Rapper and 1999’s Um Jammer Lammy for the PS1, both developed by NanaOn-Sha. PaRappa in particular is famous for being the first rhythm game ever created. They’re cut-outs because all the characters were 2D in their games. When entering the first wide open area, jump to the island on the left with a circle of Bots on it, one of which is wearing a purple beanie. The purple beanie refers to character Ashley Brown, while the one next to it with classes is Christopher Hartley.

 

This is a great game to play with the family, not only as a demo of the new controller but as a game that will hold your attention for a considerable time. Also, because of the different skills required, you may find a wider audience of players than usual platform games. In the game, you control your little character as he jumps, dodges and explores his way around the levels. Unlike other platform games, this has a trick up its sleeve in the form of the DualSense controller’s ability to let you feel your way around levels.

 

Cool Boarders was one of the most popular PS1 games, spawning four sequels. Once you pick up the PlayStation VR Artefact from Mt. Motherboard in the GPU Jungle, stand where the lenses are and punch it, showing the trailer for a VR game and getting you the “I Recognise You…” Trophy. The trailer is for Astro Bot Rescue Mission, the previous game in the series. ” Trophy, awarded for getting hit by flying rubbish in Memory Meadow.

 

These collectibles add an extra layer of depth and nostalgia to the game. The game itself effectively utilizes the DualSense controller’s features, resulting in an engaging and innovative gaming experience. Although the game is relatively short, it packs a lot of fun and demonstrates the potential of the PS5 and DualSense in this new generation of gaming. Trophies in Astro Playroom serve as rewarding milestones that enhance gameplay and motivation. They encourage exploration‚ completion of levels‚ and discovery of hidden collectibles like puzzle pieces and artifacts. Earning trophies provides a sense of accomplishment and showcases mastery of the game’s creative levels and DualSense features.

 

Astro’s Playroom Is The Pinnacle Ps5 Experience

 

On the right-hand side of the CRT pile at the end of the level are some Bots huddled around gaming on a CRT. The game they’re playing references Ridge Racer, released in 1997 for the PS1 and made by Delphine Software International. The title screen has close similarities to the original Ridge Racer and sequel Revolution, particularly the latter with a full-screen chequered flag. When you first enter the rainy section of Gusty Gateway, far in the distance to the right is a giant bird harassing/helping a Bot with a giant feather. This is a reference to the infamous The Last Guardian which eventually released in 2016 and was made by Team Ico. The Bot holding a feather refers to the game’s boxart, while the moment where he falls off and is saved by the bird references the E gameplay demo.

 

The smooth, 60-frames-per-second gameplay makes controlling Astro a real treat. While none of the sequences are terribly difficult, there’s enough of a challenge here to keep me busy for around six hours as I chase the Platinum Trophy. Summary Astro and his crew lead you on a magical introduction through PS5 in this fun platformer that comes pre-loaded on PS5.

Puzzle Piece 4/4 – When you reach the room with the fans blowing downward toward electrical hazards on the floor, this puzzle piece is between an electrified mine and these hazards. Puzzle Piece 2/4 – In this same starting area, go around the back of the rock pillar in the middle of the purple plants to find this puzzle piece. Puzzle Piece 2/4 – At the second hang glider section some rings will appear. You need to launch yourself through the ring on the right to grab this puzzle piece. Artifact 2/2 “Playstation Vita”– At the top of the above tower, jump and hold break the glass on top, then pull the revealed wire to get this artifact.

 

For example, the roller ball goes from being asphalt paths to a pinball machine-like level, while the ship mostly stays the same but has a fun boss to beat with its rockets. In between each standard platforming level are dedicated sections to unique suits for Astro. Memory Meadow, for instance, Astro becomes a little roller ball that uses the Dualsense’s trackpad for control instead of the left thumbstick. Astro’s Playroom is a very simple and small in-scale and scope game.

 

I had a bunch of games and PS+ when I got my PS5 but I still played through 100% of this and got the Platinum before I even got to any of them. The frog suit of Cooling Springs is an absolute treasure in its DualSense use, though the levels are not necessarily my favorites.
